Rabbit Ray

So I dropped my rabbit ray and was unable to pick it back up and now it has vanished. I have tried fishing for another one with no luck and have no idea where to get another. Seems like others have had this problem and it completely halts game-play as you cannot progress. Do I just start over at this point? So so bummed :(
